Attention Current & Future Eucharistic Ministers If you are unwell in the hospital, nursing home or just at home recovering and haven’t been able to receive the Holy Eucharist, this can be a great loss for the faithful and for those who are feeling alone in their illness. Reception of Holy Communion is not just a comfort for many, it is part of the spiritual and physical healing process.
I am reaching out and asking for help from our current Eucharistic Ministers and FUTURE Eucharistic Ministers to be part of the St. Catherine of Siena team to deliver Holy Communion to the sick and homebound.
Here are options as to how it can work for you:
Delivering Holy Communion to the Catholic residents at McLean Home in Simsbury happens on Wednesdays after the morning daily Mass. A number of EMs take Holy Communion to the various units at McLean, assigned by the McLean Home, for a brief visit and Holy Communion. St. Catherine of Siena provides the Sacramental training as well as the small, brief prayer book to accompany the EM with a pyx;
Once-a-month Sunday delivery of Holy Communion to home-bound parishioners. Our parish office schedules you to a limited number of parishioners who are unable to attend Mass for a brief visit and the distribution of Holy Communion. St. Catherine of Siena will train you, provide you with a brief prayer service, the pyx and holy communion. This is done on the first Sunday of the month.
For weekend Masses EMs are needed to help me with the distribution of Holy Communion within the context of the Mass. EMs are dispensed within the Church to help Father distribute Holy Communion. Training takes place with me at the Church for the correct and reverent distribution of the Sacrament within the Mass.
If you are interested in any one or multiple of these opportunities to bring Holy Communion to the sick or at Mass, please either contact the parish office at 860 658 1642 or speak directly to Fr. Whyte after the Masses or anytime you see him. Thank you!
