Last Tuesday night about 35 men from our parish met and discussed renewal of the Men’s Ministry. A good mix of both the seasoned and our more youthful men came forward—as well as a number of the younger men who could not make Tuesday night but did let me know that they wanted to learn more about the Men’s Ministry’s future. In the vein, I offer the following to ALL of the men of St. Catherine of Siena Parish:
Our vision for the Men’s Ministry has a three-pronged approach: 1. Deepen one’s spirituality as a Christian man so that they may engage with Christ and develop their Christian role as an individual or in their family as a parent, as well as in the wider community;
2. To join with other men in providing Catholic Action—good works—to our parish community and the greater Farmington Valley, particularly with the elderly or others in need; and,
3. To grow a community spirit among the men of our parish that helps foster the faithful to believe in the promises that Christ offers to everyone, thereby illustrating the power of Christian love to lead others to Christ.
The Men’s club is intended to support the men of all ages in our parish by creating fraternal spirit and then gather them into community and comradery to unleash their spirit in our parish and within the broader community from which our congregation hails.
Our goal is to design an organization that has a sufficient number of meetings per year to create friendships and comradery and then utilize that connection to accomplish our goals of good works and spiritual growth. In the style of the Jaycees Club, our Men’s Ministry will provide for social gatherings, building male Christian friendships of the like-minded people, for the service of our parish and community.
