Maureen Vargas comes from a dual background of Accounting and Teaching. She joined St. Catherine’s through the Archdiocese, providing Accounting support since October 2024. Even in that role, she could feel the strength, generosity and fellowship of our parish. Soon after, she expressed interest in the Youth Ministry events taking place right outside her door. From the enthusiasm of the kids to the apparent love of their faith, she immediately knew she wanted to be involved in the program in some way and began volunteering at some of the meetings. She is now thrilled to be able to support them as our new fulltime Youth Ministry Director, along with her continued financial role as our Parish Business Manager one-day per week.
A graduate of Providence College and a CPA, Maureen started out in Public Accounting Auditing and has held numerous financial positions in corporate and service-related companies. Coupled with that, she was a substitute teacher for over ten years for all age groups, but primarily middle school and high school. Also over that time, she served as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter’s troop, PTO Vice-President and Treasurer at the schools her children attended, as well as a volunteer leader in various religious, education and community service programs, offering support and companionship for the homeless, special needs children and adults, and senior citizens in nursing homes.
Maureen grew up in Southington, CT where she still lives with her family, including her husband of 25 years, her two children, ages 19 and 21, and her father, whom she moved-in with her upon her late mom’s illness in 2021. She attends Mass with her father in her home town at St. Luke’s Parish. Family and faith are extremely important in her household and she is excited to be able to extend that to St. Catherine’s. She is committed to being a mentor to our Youth Ministry children, providing a positive and supportive environment to help shape their values, guide their spiritual journey, and help foster growth in their relationship with God through many good works and engagement opportunities. Welcome, Maureen!
