Helen Treacy and her family became parishioners of St. Catherine’s nearly 20 years ago. They were immediately taken by the sense of community and the strong Religious Education program available for her young children. Religious education has been a defining and reoccurring tenet in her life.
Helen grew up as the second youngest in a family of 10 children, and her mother had two desires for each of her children. One, to earn a college degree, and two, to go to Mass! She attended Mass as a family every Sunday, regardless of any sports or extracurricular activity that was scheduled.
Upon graduating from Villanova University, Helen became a missionary in Japan where she taught English Conversation to middle and high school aged students, as well as served the physical and spiritual needs of the homeless in her community. After three years, Helen returned to the United States to pursue her teaching credential and reconnect with Greg Treacy. She and Greg have been married for almost 30 years and have been blessed with four wonderful children who are now having children of their own!
While raising her children, Helen earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership. She was able to teach elementary children part-time, coach high school volleyball, and become a Board of Education member in her hometown of Canton. After she finished her degree, Helen became a Catholic school principal at St. Augustine School in Hartford, CT. Three years later, she was hired to be the principal at St. Matthew School in Forestville, CT. For personal reasons, Helen and her husband moved to Oklahoma City and Helen was hired at Bishop John Carroll Cathedral School as the school principal. This past summer Helen and her husband returned home to Connecticut.
Each of these roles has reaffirmed Helen’s commitment to service. She strongly believes that children at any age learn best through service and that we as the adults are the greatest teachers and must be strong examples for them. Helen looks forward to working with the St. Catherine’s team as well with each of you! Welcome, Helen!
